Founded by three women, Travay started as a seed of an idea that has since blossomed into a way of life. 

Travay marries the words “travaille” meaning to work in French, and “play” —  a colloquialism so natural to us Founders that we have started using it in our daily conversations. “That’s so travay” you will often hear us say. Like, when we see a mom on the street corner balancing her baby on one hip and her market bag of baguettes on the other. Or spotting a group of women laughing and drinking wine on the banks of the Seine. It has turned into a synonym for that certain je ne sais quoi appeal that women tend to exude when they are living artfully, exquisitely, authentically. 

The Travay woman embodies joy, is skilled at her craft, takes pleasure in a job well done, holds space for play and creativity, delights in leisure, carries herself with grace, and cares deeply for the earth. The pieces we have created are made for all women, in all seasons of life: for work, for play, and the everyday. 

Our ethos is workwear for the everyday woman, inspired by France and made in California. Intentional thought and careful creativity is in the fabric of everything we do. From sourcing the highest quality natural textiles, to partnering with like-minded makers, we share in a core commitment to sustainable and ethical practices that are kind to the earth and our bodies. Each piece of clothing carries the stories of those who brought it into being and of those who will wear it. 

Made with all-natural fibers down to the last stitch, each piece is hand-sewn by skilled craftsmen. Our linen, woven using traditional methods dating back to the 1700s, is sourced from the northern Irish countryside from a mill powered by 100% renewable energy. Our dress is made with 50% organic cotton and 50% organic linen. Our packaging is 100% recycled, 97% post-consumer waste, and focused on materials circularity and regenerative matter. We want our imprint to be as small, thoughtful, and respectful to the environment as possible, while also being able to deliver beautiful clothing to you all.
